| Dear New Folks,
Thank you for adopting me. When we get home, please
confine me initially to a special room - making sure that
all the windows and door are securely locked - naturally
with my toilet (litter tray) and a bowl of water.
I may hide as a move to a new home with strange sounds,
smells and sights can be very traumatic to a small kitten. I
may react strangely at first, dashing under furniture and
not wanting to play. Please give me a chance to explore and
become accustomed to my new home and family. I may be a
little coy, so please, give me lots of cuddles. Also, please
remember that I am still a baby, I will need lots of rest
and sleep too.
We Burmese are very good with children, but do not like
too much rough handling. I need companionship, care and
affection - not over indulgence! (so my breeder says!) I
would like my own bed, however, as I love my comfort, I
would much prefer to share yours or any other willing
human's bed - especially when it is cold as I have a rather
short coat. I will enjoy being groomed; my ears will need
attention too once in a while as they are rather difficult
for me to reach as a 'do it yourself' job!
Are there any other pets? If so, please postpone my
introduction to them until I have completely settled.
Introduce them gradually to me and only when you are around
'cos that will make me feel more secure.
In keeping with modern trends and the wonderful array of
nutritionally balanced cat foods now available, my breeder
has weaned me onto Science Diet Growth Formula. I will need
at least two 3 kilogram bags to take me through to
adulthood. Please free feed me, so I can eat whenever hunger
pangs gnaw at me! All you need do is keep the bowl topped up
and make sure that there is plenty clean water available at
all times.
I need Clean, Fresh Water Daily.
I have been wormed, but from time to time, it may be
necessary to repeat it, particularly if you have young
children in my new home. It does help keep me in tip top
condition. Should I get an upset or runny tummy, please
avoid ALL DAIRY PRODUCTS AND LIVER. Should the diarrhoea
persist, please take me to my *G.P. immediately. (THIS CAN BE
A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM - LEADING TO DEHYDRATION AND POSSIBLY
EVEN DEATH). However, should I appear a little constipated,
a teaspoon of margarine will help put things right.
I have been toilet trained and will use a litter tray. As
I am very fastidious in my toilet habits, I will refuse to
use an excessively soiled litter tray. Please change it
daily and removed all the solids soon after my depositing
them there, or I may choose to use other unsuitable places
(like pot plants or the carpet). Also my breeder warns that
if I consistently miss or use unsuitable places despite you
taking care of the tray, please consult my G.P. as I may
have an underlying medical problem.
Other visits to my G.P. will include booster inoculations
(you will find the due date noted on the adoption agrrement) - please remember they must be repeated annually!
My breeder also recommends that I have a Rabies shot. Please
discuss my full vaccination programme with my G.P
As I am a Burmese, I am by nature extremely inquisitive!
I can be quite naughty and will need to be disciplined.
(Please do not smack me, I will sulk and pay you no
attention). My breeder recommends a water spray (e.g. window
cleaner sprays filled with water are O.K.) Give me squirt
and tell me NO! Please supply me with a scratching post, I
have been trained to use one - as well
clipping my nails/claws
regularly - will help save your upholstered furnishings and
curtains. My breeder has two "pages" with
photographs demonstrating these techniques.
Please keep the bathroom door closed, particularly when
you are running a hot bath - I find running water
fascinating! Keep the loo seat down, I am far too young for
swimming lessons! Other intriguing and exciting places to
explore are open doors of washing machines and dryers,
cupboards etc. and can disappear for hours - giving you the
horrors - whilst I take a much needed nap! Being a Burmese
is such tiring work!!
Since I like people and cars, ensure that when visitors
leave, I am securely closed inside the house, otherwise.. I
may hop into their car for an unscheduled trip, or even
worse, I may end up under the car's wheels.. Another
favourite past-time is killing 'snakes' not the real live
ones I hasten to add, but any electric cord or flex (and
just as deadly!!)
Please give me lots of toys. They need not be expensive.
Ping-pong balls, catnip mice, cotton reels or furry things
without any sharp edges or points. A cardboard box with
several small holes cut into it or a 'screw' of paper will
keep me amused for hours.
Please keep in touch with my breeder and DO NOT HESITATE
to contact her with any problems, she will be pleased to
assist you. SHE IS ONLY A PHONE CALL AWAY!
If for any reason, you unfortunately have to part with
me, please speak to my breeder first.
*G.P. = your vet!

IMPORTANT!
An Unwell Condition Must Be Reported Within 72 Hours After My
Collection. Thereafter, No Responsibility Will Be Taken For My
Health.
Every effort has been made to place a completely
healthy kitten in its new home. Please bear in mind, however,
that despite this, minor health problems may occur. The most
common is loose stools soon after placement and is usually due
to the new owner not following the recommended diet.
Another problem that may arise, is an apparent
"cold".
This is sometimes due to common household dust.
If the kitten's appetite remains healthy, there is seldom
reason for concern.
But should this condition persist beyond a week, please
consult your vet. |
